Training Programme 2013
10 Oct : 14:41
As you may be aware, Southwold Sailing Club has been awarded a Lottery Funded, Sport England Grant of £10,000. This grant is part of the ‘Olympic Legacy’ and is intended to offer opportunities and initiatives to people to get afloat and learn to sail.
The money will be used to buy six Laser Picos, a small, two handed, fairly indestructible sailing dinghy, buoyancy aids, safety helmets and to train up volunteers to become RYA-qualified instructors. Once we have set this up we will begin our programme, probably in April 2013.
The idea is that we will take the boats to the west side of the Bailey Bridge. There, they will be rigged and we will be able to teach sailing to anyone who is interested, an hour either side of high tide, usually on a Saturday.
We will have the requisite number of instructors and safety boat personnel to carry out proper RYA programmes.
The cost is yet to be decided but will be kept as low as possible, to give access to all, but enough to cover costs and keep the Picos in good condition. If you are interested in becoming involved, keep an eye on this website and closer to the time contact Robin Watkins on 01502 478874 or email him on carobinwatkins@hotmail.com
Summer fete success
19 Jul : 15:14
Many thanks to all the stallholders and volunteers who helped at last weekend's summer fete. The event was a great success.
The Club raised approximately £700 with a few bills outstanding. Also many thanks to those who donated some of their profits to the Club. We were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of people who helped.
Special thanks go to Cath Pickles and David Worthington for organising the event.
