A brilliant bank holiday weekend started on Friday evening with the bar open and serving up a trio of Green Jack Beers as well as the usual Adnams selection and of course the standard stunning sunset!
Unfortunately the first event of the weekend, trhe cruiser race to Sizewell had to be cancelled due to the strong wind against tide conditions, meaning the harbour entrance would have been particularly unpleasant after the race.
Most of the fleet opted to head for the other bar, in preparation for the evenings Fish and Chips and to make another dent in the beers stocks. One sailor did make it out onto the river and the Vice Commodore in his laser provided entertainment for the spectators on the balcony with a perfectly timed windward capsize in front of the clubhouse.
Sundays conditions were much the same, grey skies and gusty winds from the North, but this didn’t stop a fleet of 18 dinghies heading upriver for 3 back to back races.
The Smith family led the way with Sebastian in his Optimist and Kathryn in her Solution taking a race apiece and visitor David Doyle in his Laser winning the other, Ollie Broughton led the club challenge in his laser radial.
The fleet returned to the club for a fantastic BBQ with thanks to Jen for her brilliant organisation. Then it was party time with Toby providing the tracks for young and old to dance late into the night.
Mondays weary heads were greeted by another grey and windy day and therefore another set of upriver races rather than out to sea as planned.
Sebastian took all three race wins, with a notable performance from Hugh, also in an Optimist, Ollie added another set of good results to his series and Mimi had a consistent day with a superb first race start leading at the first mark.
